My father deceased on 25 April 2011, after having suffered from severe illness for 1.5 years. So my wife and I decided to take my mother, who had become a widow, with us on vacation to the isle of Capri, Italy. We ourselves are from The Netherlands (this becomes important later on in the story). In Italy my mother of course had her own hotel room, but her room was on the same floor as our room. On August 22, 2011 at around 5 pm suddenly there was knocking on our hotel room, followed by the excited voice of my mother. She asked us to open the door quickly. My wife opened the door and I saw my mother standing in the door opening, dressed very sloppy. Obviously she had put on the first clothes she had found in a big hurry (this way of dressing is something she would never do under normal circumstances). She told us her cell phone rang while she was resting on her bed and reading a book. When she looked on the phone display it said "ENGELENZENDER". This is Dutch for ANGEL SENDER or ANGEL BROADCASTER. Now this is very weird, to get a message in Dutch on the display of the cell phone while residing in Southern Italy. No telephone company with that name is known in The Netherlands, Italy or even Europe. None of her contacts stored in the cell phone have this nickname. Also, we don't know anybody with that nickname. Later we found out that my mother's other son (my brother) tried to call her from the Dutch Caribbean Island of Saint Martin at the time point her phone displayed "ENGELENZENDER". 

This is just 1 of many strange events happening to us after my father died, but it is the most striking one.

I am a doubter and would probably still doubt if my father appeared in front of me.

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?   Uncertain      I started experimenting with EVP. The results are astonishing, but I remain a doubter, probably because of my scientific background.

Did the experience give you any spiritual understandings such as life, death, afterlife, God, etc.?            Uncertain      The possibility of an afterlife is now more acceptable to me.

Death Compacts are when two or more living people promise among themselves that whoever dies first will try to contact the other(s).  Have you ever made such a compact?        No

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          Yes Telephone call was made by my brother. But if he calls, just his name shows up on the display and certainly not ANGEL BROADCASTER. Could it be a higher power interfered?

 Is there anything else you would like to add regarding your experience?       We had more experiences, also involving phone calls at the exact time (23:50 pm) of my fathers death, some months after his death. Normally nobody calls that late, at least not us. But when we picked up the phone there would be just static.

Were there any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?            No

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         No 

Did you ever in your life have a near-death experience, out of body experience or other spiritual event?           Yes 

But only in the months after my father's death. Phone calls and radios going on spontaneously. Many things involving electricity.
