Experience description:



About 5 years ago I was chatting with my daughter on the phone we were discussing the recent auto accident of  Princess Diana. This was just after the news reported it on TV at the time everyone thought that she had not been hurt. 

Moving on in our conversation my daughter started telling me something when my phone seemed to lose its connection. I could not hear her voice any more. The phone line seemed for lack of a better word 'muffled'.  Next the room smelled like the spicy perfume my mom always wore, then I heard my mother's voice not so much over the phone but it seemed to come from directly behind me almost as if she were standing over my shoulder speaking in my ear!. She said "She's dead" that's it no other message.

I turned around but on one was there. All the time I had the receiver press to my ear suddenly my daughters voice came over the phone asking why I had not answered her question. I ask her if she had heard anything at all she said no. I made up an excuse to hang up telling my daughter I would ring her back later. I didn't want to tell her what I'd heard yet. After hanging up I looked through the whole house just to make sure on one was home.

I'm convinced that was my mothers voice and that smell she's the only person I've ever know that wore that scent. It's not too strange to think that my mom came back to relate the news of a strangers fate. When she was alive we spoke once a week and she would tell me all the news of our family or her friends from church. She loved to gossip. I miss her so much.

Did you hear the deceased or hear something associated with the deceased?  Yes
      Describe:  She told me that "she's dead"
      Did the voice or sound seem to originate externally, or outside of you, inside of you, or did you not hear a voice or sound but had a knowing of what was communicated?  externally

      If you heard a voice or sound, was it similar or dissimilar to the voice or sound the deceased made when they were alive?  it sounded like my mom

      How clearly did you hear the deceased?  very, almost like she was standing next to me.

      Is there any possibility that what you heard was from any other source in the surroundings at the time of your experience?  no, on one was home but me and the tv and radio were off.

      Was there any possible impairment to your hearing at the time of the experience?  no

Did you smell a distinct smell, fragrance or odor associated with the deceased?  Yes

      Describe:  a perfume that was my mom's favorite I don't think it sold anymore

      Was the smell, scent, fragrance or odor familiar?  yes see #8

      Was anything communicated by the smell?  no

      Is there any possibility the smell, scent, fragrance or odor was from any other source present in your surroundings at the time of your experience?  no

How long did the experience last?  not sure

Was the beginning and end of the experience gradual or more sudden?  both were sudden

Did the deceased give you information you did not previously know?  yes,  she told me that Princess Diana was dead. I didn't know for sure until the next morning when I saw a paper.

How do you currently view the reality of your experience:  Experience was definitely real

Describe in detail your feelings/emotions during the experience:  I was somewhat shocked and bit amused

Was there any emotional healing in any way following the experience?  No

      Describe:  I told my family, they thought it was just like grandma to want to still chat on the phone. I think all of us believe in a life after death

What emotions/feelings did you experience following your experience?  shocked at first

What was the best and worst part of your experience?  it was funny not any of it was bad.
