EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

I was walking down a grocery store aisle and this was my first time out in public after my husband died.  We lived in a very small town where everyone knows everyone.  My husband was quite prominent, being a curator in the Maritime Museum, which was very popular in the state.

I was feeling anxious about meeting someone and was afraid that I would just fall apart of "lose it" if/when I met someone.  I heard in my right ear very distinctly Geoff's voice saying, "You'll be all right, Goat."  Goat or Nannygoat was Geoff's pet name for me.

It had been months since I had last heard Geoff's voice.  The cancer had affected his ability to speak six months before he died!

Was this experience difficult to express in words?  No

Did you hear the deceased or hear something associated with the deceased?          Yes

Describe what you heard, how clearly you heard it and what was communicated:    I heard distinctly, without a shadow of doubt, Geoff's voice telling me, "You'll be all right, goat!"  He was assuring me that I would 'hold up' in case I met someone I knew.

Did the voice or sound seem to originate externally or outside of you, inside you, or did you not hear a voice or sound, but had a sense of knowing what was communicated?  The voice was in my right ear, just like Geoff had placed his mouth to my ear, not whispering but in a solid, clear voice that was his, accent and all.  Geoff was from England.  His words were as clear as a bell.

If you heard a voice or sound, was it similar or dissimilar from the voice or sound the deceased made when they were alive?           It was exactly Geoff's voice.

Is there any possibility what you heard was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?           I remember being startled and turned around instantly and remember I was alone in the grocery aisle.

Was there any possible impairment to your hearing at the time of the experience?   No.

Please explain why you view the reality of your experience as real or not real:           I had not heard Geoff's voice in about six months due to his illness affecting his brain and ability to speak.  It was definitely Geoff's voice and accent and he called me by his pet name, Goat.
