Experience description:

It was very simple as I explained above.  My dad was dying in the cancer hospital and I had come home from work and was going to go swimming with my 1 year old daughter.  I was getting ready and messing around in the kitchen when I was in the cabinet the cup I had of his was right there.  I pulled it out.  I never saw him, but I could feel him near me.  I said "Look dad, I found your cup," and I felt mildly comforted.  When I later called the hospital and found his room empty, I was told his time of death and it was the same time I was at home getting ready to go.

At another time I smelled his cologne in my family dorm.  Again I never saw him but he came to me and told me that he would not be as close as he had been before, that he had some other things he had to do.  He didn't speak in words, but it was a sensation.  This happened about two years after his death.

I have had 3 dreams with him in them.  He never speaks to me and always wears his dark glasses.  He communicates with me through physical gestures.  The dreams typically have to do with my involvement with a person and his feelings about them.

Was this experience difficult to express in words?

No

Did you ONLY sense an awareness of presence of the deceased without actually seeing, hearing, feeling or smelling them?

Uncertain

Did you hear the deceased or hear something associated with the deceased?

No

Did you feel a touch or experience any physical contact from the deceased?

Uncertain

It wasn't an actual touch--it was a warmth that encompassed me.

Was the touch familiar or unfamiliar?

It was familiar only like being in his presence

Was anything communicated by the touch?

The feeling communicated the words that I understood.

Is there any possibility what you felt was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?

There was nothing around me, no drafts, etc.

Did you see the deceased?

No

Did you smell a distinct smell, scent, fragrance or odor associated with the deceased?

Yes

What smell, scent, fragrance or odor did you smell?

The second experience I smelled the cologne he always wore.

Was the smell, scent, fragrance or odor familiar?

Yes, it was distinctly his going to work smell.

Was anything communicated by the smell?

At that time, he communicated somehow that he would not be as close as he had been since his passing.

Is there any possibility that the smell, scent, fragrance or odor was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?

No.

How long did the experience last?

Only for a minute or so.  I tried to keep talking to him, but he left quickly as far as I can tell.

Was the beginning and end of the experience gradual or more sudden?

It all seemed sudden and quick.

Could you sense the emotions or mood of the deceased?

Uncertain

An all pervading sense of love and knowledge of him always was there at the time of the experiences.

Did the deceased give you information you did not previously know?

When he said he would no longer be as close, it seemed as though he was telling me that he was moving on to another level of after-life duty???

How do you currently view the reality of your experience?

Experience was probably real

Please explain why you view the reality of your experience as real or not real:

Lately I find so many things fall together in a "relative" sort of way.  Coincidences are far too common in my life.  Sometimes I wonder if it all was coincidence working to comfort me?

Was the experience dream like in any way?

No

Describe in detail your feelings/emotions during the experience:

I was calm.  Just taking in information and not really sure why it was presented to me in that particular way.

Was there any emotional healing in any way following the experience?

Uncertain

Perhaps I began to work harder on my spiritual self to have a better understanding of life and it's purpose.  I tried to better myself and make better choices (keyword=tried)

What was the best and worst part of your experience?

Not being able to see him bothered my.  Being able to feel him and smell him was wonderful.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?

Uncertain

            Describe:

I tried to please him more, but always find that I have to follow my specific God given talents in life

I began to think I was capable of connecting to God to be a better person

Did the experience give you any spiritual understandings such as life, death, afterlife, God, etc.?

I believe it helped some to determine that maybe there was a connection between us and it was for good.

Death Compacts are when two or more living people promise among themselves that whoever dies first will try to contact the other(s).  Have you ever made such a compact?

No

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?

No

What emotions did you feel during the experience?

Still relaxation and confusion.  Trying to figure out what it meant.

Have you shared this experience with others?

No

I don't recall influencing anyone.  They seem to empathize, knowing that there is a greater connecting between us than we realize.

Have you shared this experience formally or informally with any other researcher or web site?

No

Were there any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?            No

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?

I have had a few unusual experiences that are a bit more involved.

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?
