My Grandfather died on Jan. 9th 1973 . Shortly after his death I got a job working offshore and went out a week after his death. We were working 12 hour shifts and I had just completed my shift and taken a shower . I went to my room , turned out the lights and laid down. My room did not have any windows and when the lights were out it was so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. As soon as I laid down my grandfather appeared on my left side . All I saw of him was from his waist up . He appeared to be illuminated and was wearing his hat he always wore and a his dark dress jacket which he wore to Church on Sundays. I was so shocked at what I was seeing I closed my eyes. I opened them again only to see he was still there, again I closed them and opened them again only to see his still there. Again I repeated the procedure but this time he was gone. I didn't tell anyone about what I had seen and kept this to myself.

When my 7 days offshore was completed I came back home to our house . My grandmother was sitting in her chair when I came home and she called me over and had me sit down to talk . Grandmother then told me she was sitting in her chair watching TV. at about 1:00-pm and when she looked to her right side my grandfather appeared to her . Grandmother stated she was so shocked to see him she put her hands over her face . Grandma said when she took her hands away grandpa was gone . Best we can determine both incidents occurred on the same date. We both have one regret though and this being neither one of us attempted to speak to Grandpa or ask him any questions . This happened when I was 19 years old , in now 52 but remember the whole incident as if it were yesterday.

I believe Grandpa came back to show me he was ok and for me to realize death is not the end but the beginning. From that day forward I know that when my day comes  he will be there waiting for me .
