Experience description:

The father of my girlfriend at the time was dying.  I loved him very dearly; he was like a father to me as well as a dear friend.  He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer three months earlier.  Hospice was involved, and they provided a bed, which the family put in the living room so that he wouldn't be stuck back in a bedroom.  His condition had steadily worsened, and this was the day that he died.  I was sitting in the living room with my girlfriend, her brother, and her mother.  Her father was in the bed breathing heavily, about to die.  I didn't realize he was going to die in the next few minutes, and I left to go to an appointment.  About ten minutes later, I was driving down the highway to my appointment, which was about 25 minutes away.  While I was driving, I suddenly felt like I was remembering something that had happened and living it at the same time.  My girlfriend's father and I were at a table in a restaurant laughing and joking about something. We were having a very good time and we were both very happy.  It was fun, and we laughed the whole time.  It was like I was there and driving down the highway at the same time.  It lasted a couple of minutes and then ended.  It was not just a memory; it was really happening.  I found out after my appointment that my experience was just a few minutes after he died.  I believe he stopped off on his way to where ever his spirit was going to have one last laugh with me.  Somehow he included me in a small piece of his afterlife.  Immediately after the experience, I couldn't remember what we were laughing about.
