(This ADC was written by my mom, based on my words)

My grandpa and I had become close because he lived with me and my family almost four years. He lived with us because he had cancer and needed our love and support. A few days after my grandpa died, I had a dream about him. This wasn’t like other dreams, though. It felt like my grandpa was right there,  reaching out after he died.

In the dream, I walked downstairs to the basement. At the bottom of the steps stood several ghosts, their arms wrapped around each other. I knew they were ghosts because I could see through them. They greeted me as if they knew me. I did not recognize them. I asked if they could show me where my grandpa was now. They pointed to their right-hand side.

I saw my grandpa standing by himself a several feet from the other ghosts. He looked solid, tall, and healthy. He looked like he had in pictures taken around fifteen years before he died. We hugged each other. I told him I missed him. He said he missed me, too. I asked if he was ok. He said “watch this,”. All of a sudden we were outside, in the front yard of our home. My grandpa walked down the driveway and picked up the paper without any problem. He hadn’t been able to do this for months. This was the end of my dream.

A couple of days later, my mom was getting pictures to show at my grandpa’s memorial service. I looked at one picture with many family members. I recognized them from my dream, including my great grandparents. They were the ones who showed me where my grandpa was standing.

I know my grandpa is with me in spirit. There was a light flashing on and off like someone was moving the switch up and down. My family saw mourning doves paying an unusual visit to our backyard the day after my grandpa died (they usually are not found in this far north this time of year). We also had a radio turn off by itself and a microwave registering 11:11 over and over by itself.  These signs don’t bother me, though I am very curious about them.

At the time of your experience was there an associated life-threatening event?   No

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?         When I hugged my grandpa.

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness?      Normal consciousness and alertness   It felt like normal consciousness.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?   Happiness to see my grandpa. Confusion over seeing the ghosts.  

Did you pass into or through a tunnel?   No  

Did you see an unearthly light?   No  

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice?   No

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)?   No  

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings?   Yes   I saw the spirits of dead relatives I had never met or seen pictures of before the dream. They appeared see-through and didn’t speak. They looked close because they had their arms around each other.

Did you become aware of past events in your life during your experience?   No  

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world?   No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down?   Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning
It seemed like the summary of a story taking place all at once.

Did scenes from the future come to you?  No 

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness suggesting that there either is (or is not) continued existence after earthly life (“life after death”)?   Yes   I saw my grandpa. He was there to let me know he was okay and still existed after he died. I saw my dead relatives, though I didn’t know they were my relatives at the time.

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness that God or a supreme being either does (or does not) exist?   Yes   God can make people healthy again after they die.

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness that you either did (or did not) exist prior to this lifetime?   Yes   I learned about my dead relatives. I had not known these relatives existed.

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness that a mystical universal connection or unity/oneness either does (or does not) exist?   Yes   My relatives appeared connected and they were close to my grandpa.

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness regarding earthly life’s difficulties, challenges, or hardships?   Yes   God can make you healthy and younger again in heaven after you were sick on earth.

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness regarding love?   Yes   I felt love between my grandpa’s spirit and me. My grandpa’s spirit remembered me and loved me. And my relatives I didn’t know seemed to know and care about me.

What occurred during your experience included:   Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience   I felt I was dead with my grandpa at first in the dream. Then it felt like I came to life along with him in the dream, like when he walked to get the newspaper.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience?   I remember the experience less accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience
