Experience description:

I spoke to my mother every day except Mondays because I would typically sleep all day after working 7 night shifts. She called me on January 4th - Monday night - and we talked normally. The next day, January 5, 2021, I took a nap that afternoon. I had a dream about my mother, my father and my significant other, Josh. In the dream In the dream: My mother appeared radiantly beautiful, laughing in a way that was    pure and full of joy. She looked younger, full of light, and was holding her beloved cat Jessie, a pet who had passed away years earlier and meant the world to her. She was laughing and dancing with my father (her husband) and playfully joking with my boyfriend about how much she loved her cats.

The entire atmosphere was suffused with an overwhelming sense of peace, light, and joy — a feeling beyond human words.

The feeling of the dream lingered so vividly that when I woke up briefly, I distinctly thought to myself, 'My God, she was so beautiful.'

I returned to sleep after that, feeling comforted without understanding why.

Approximately two hours later, I was awakened by a phone call from my father: He had come home from work and found my mother deceased.

Paramedics were at the scene, but there was nothing they could do.

At the time of my dream, I had no knowledge that my mother had passed.

The visitation occurred before I consciously knew she had died. 

Was this experience difficult to express in words?     Yes

 I’ve never seen or heard  anything so beautiful before so there aren’t adequate words to describe it

 Did you ONLY sense an awareness of presence of the deceased without actually seeing, hearing, feeling or smelling them?      Uncertain

 Did you hear the deceased or hear something associated with the deceased?          Uncertain

           Describe what you heard, how clearly you heard it and what was communicated:   It was in my dream but I heard her laughing and speaking and saying that 'my cats will just have to be a dog today' joking with my boyfriend about his love for dogs.

           Did the voice or sound seem to originate externally or outside of you, inside you, or did you not hear a voice or sound, but had a sense of knowing what was communicated?     Again, it was Ina dream so did not occur physically.

           If you heard a voice or sound, was it similar or dissimilar from the voice or sound the deceased made when they were alive?     Yea, but her laugh was indescribable. It was such a beautiful sound. It was different than before.

           Is there any possibility what you heard was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?   No

           Was there any possible impairment to your hearing at the time of the experience?   No

 Did you feel a touch or experience any physical contact from the deceased?         No

 Did you see the deceased?       Uncertain

 In my dream she was younger and unbelievably beautiful. She was always beautiful but this beauty was felt and glowing. There are no words to describe it.

            How clearly did the deceased appear?            In the dream I can’t recall. I saw her that day but it’s hard to recall now

            How much of the deceased did you see?       I don’t know

            Did the deceased appear or not appear to be the age at which they died?           She was still an adult but just a more refreshed , carefree version of herself. I have said previously she was younger but maybe just lighter? Free from worry or stress

            How healthy did the deceased appear to be?            Very healthy

            Is there any possibility what you saw was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?   No

 Did you smell a distinct smell, scent, fragrance or odor associated with the deceased? No

 How long did the experience last?      It’s hard to know- possibly a few minutes

 Was the beginning and end of the experience gradual or more sudden?       I don’t know.

 Could you sense the emotions or mood of the deceased?          Yes   Joy, happy, peacefulness, wholeness

 Did the deceased give you information you did not previously know?  No

 How do you currently view the reality of your experience?          Experience was definitely real

           Please explain why you view the reality of your experience as real or not real:   I’ve never experienced anything like it before or since

           Was the experience dream like in any way?  Yes

 I was asleep and dreaming.

 Describe in detail your feelings/emotions during the experience:  Happiness, her happiness was contagious. We were all laughing along with her in my dream. It was hard not to. Peace, content. Pure joy

 Was there any emotional healing in any way following the experience? No

 What was the best and worst part of your experience?          Best part, I was allowed to see my mother as she is in heaven and know that she is healed and happy.

There is not a worse part.

 Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience? Yes                Describe:     I believe in God and in heaven and that our bodies are healed and made perfect

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?      Yes    I truly without doubt believe that heaven exists.

 Did the experience give you any spiritual understandings such as life, death, afterlife, God, etc.?         Yes    I believe that I was allowed a small glimpse of what my mother looks like in heaven and that our beloved cats will be there waiting for us.

 Death Compacts are when two or more living people promise among themselves that whoever dies first will try to contact the other(s).  Have you ever made such a compact?    No

 What emotions did you feel during the experience?          Happiness

 Was the experience witnessed or experienced by others?          Uncertain  I shared the experience with my significant other immediately afterwards.

 Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?         No

 Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?      No

 Have you shared this experience with others?       Yes    I’m not sure they believe me
